Victory square is a commemorative square in Minsk, which celebrates the act of bravery of the Belarusian soldiers during the Great Patriotic War. Minsk’s Victory Square was called Round square until 1958, due to its architectural ensemble which consisted of two semicircular houses standing side by side. The 38-meter high victory monument which was built in 1954, of course, draws a lot of attention. The eminent obelisk is visible from afar and looks impressive in any weather.
On the pedestal of the granite monument is the Holy Sword of Victory. Noteworthy, that each facet of the pedestal is decorated with bronze reliefs dedicated, respectively, to the day of the great Victory, Belarusian partisans, fallen heroes, and the Soviet Army. At the foot of the obelisk is the Eternal flame. People come here to honor the memory and the feat of valiant soldiers who died fighting for peace.
Under the Victory Square there is a memorial in the underpass, which is decorated with wall plates with the names of the warriors carved on them. The warriors mentioned there have received the title of Heroes and contributed to the liberation of Belarus. In addition, this memorial hall has a symbol of Eternal flame, made in the form of a glass wreath illuminated from the inside. This area is an important sight of the city, which reminds of the immortal and majestic feat of the Soviet people.
